Launch of a new Japanese DAWN website
A new DAWN website from Japan was launched at a DAWN evening seminar held as part of the Japan Diabetes Society (JDS) Annual Meeting on May 25th, 2006 in Tokyo with 30 media representatives being present.
The Japanese DAWN website offers healthcare providers various tools and information to address communication and overcome barriers. The website provides a package set with a guidebook for the healthcare provider of how to interact with the patient, a check sheet for the patient to fill in at the consultation and four various leaflets for patients to take home after a clinical examination.
The website contains many important messages relating to psychosocial patient barriers such as “Taking insulin is like wearing glasses when you lose your good eyesight”. Each message is accompanied by drawn pictures to make the message easy to understand and accept for the person with diabetes.
